Description: Deleting the file INDEX.DAT

This file stores information about all the sites that you visited. If you want to protect your privacy you might want to delete this file. The file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 The file is protected so it is not as easy as a simple deletion. Here is how you can do it. Start -->Run...--> type in "cmd". Navigate to the folder where index.dat is located. Kip this window open. Open Task Manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Click on the Processes tab, select Explorer.exe and click on End Process. You should now see only the command prompt window. Use the command "del index.dat". Go back to Task Manager --> click File -->Run --> Explorer and your desktop should return to normal.
